Probes used: WebGL renderer class, deviceMemory, hardwareConcurrency, platform (UA-CH first), prefers-reduced-motion, and a ~1 second offscreen animation benchmark. Any probe that fails is simply skipped — unknown means a more conservative recommendation, never an error. The fallback chain always ends at ascii, the runs-anywhere floor.
